LOVE ACTUALLY
a man's point of view

This movie made me angry. It is a good movie. I liked it quite a bit. In the first two minutes of the film it made me angry. It completely refutes any of my ideas of misanthropism or curmudgeonry. It gives proof by example that people are basically loving by nature. Of course by the time I am in the parking lot, trying to leave the theatre I am wishing death upon people again.

This film explores love from top to bottom; from the Prime Minister to a small child. But it is not too saccharine. The first half builds up every story almost to the point of "They lived happily ever after." In the second half writer/director Richard Curtis starts showing the darker side of romance. The girl who finally gets the man she has been pining over for years and realizes that familial responsibilties will never allow her to devote herself to love. The poor guy comes to grips with unrequited love that he knows he can never fulfill. The family man who makes poor choices. Speaking of which I didn't quite understand the use of Rowen Atkinson almost as a force in both assisting in the last temptation of Alan Rickman and as assisting in a juvenile romance.

All in all a good flick well worth watching alone or in pairs. I would even say that this movie could and should be enjoyed by single people because it will encourage.
