DOES WHATEVER A SPIDER CAN!
Spent the morning of the 4th at the movies. That's right, Spider-Man 2. Man it was good. At least as good as the first. The fight scenes are amazing. The pacing spectacular! The love elements were super stories! The characters were completely 2099! No really, the fight scenes alone are well worth the price of admission! This is one of those comic book movies that even the straights will enjoy. If a person can get past the idea of a human being with the proportionate strength and the abilities of a spider, they can fully enjoy this. You don't need to have seen the first. They weave in enough plot from the first without beating you over the head with it.
I also highly enjoyed the working in of several ancillary characters from the comics. You get to see several characters that would go one to be perennial Spidey antagonists. Give an award to whoever cast J.K. Simmons as J.Jonah Jameson. Greatest example of casting in the history of cinema ever! I loved it.
SPOILER WARNING
My only minor complaint about the movie is that the romantic climax is so wrenching because you really do feel for these characters. You really do feel bad for Parker deciding to foreswear love with the woman whom he loves and who loves him. Then all that emotional attachment is reversed by the ending of the movie. That is to say Mary Jane's reverse decision about being with Parker. This somewhat deflates the emotional crescendo right before it. But other than that a truly web-of movie!!
