RIP
Howard Morris died May 21. For those of you as kids who didn't watch TV in the 70's that was rerunning TV from the 60's he played Ernest T. Bass on the Andy Griffith show. And if you have watched any amount of the AG show then you know that these were far and away the best episodes because of the inclusion of Bass. Some of you may remember him better as Mel Brooks' mentor, Prof. Lilloman in High Anxiety. He was Caesar's court introducer in History of the World part I.
He also spent much time in the world of cartoon voice acting. Upon researching this I discovered a good number of cartoon voices that he did that upon remembrance I said "Oh yeah! That was totally his voice." This list is far from inclusive. If curious check out IMDB
He was the voice of Jughead Jones
Waldo Kitty
Atom Ant
Beetle Baily
As well as various characters on the Jetsons and the Groovy Ghoulies.

POOR FREDDY MERCURY
It only took me twenty years. I remember listening to Queen records and on the radio when I was much younger. And it only took me twenty years to not hear the lyrics but to actually listen to what was being said. I was never a fan of Queen when I was younger. I didn't dislike them I just didn't appreciate them. I think Brian May is an incredible guitarist if only for his ability with subtlety. And Freddy Mercury. Besides being a great vocalist go back and listen to the words. I just never caught on how genuinely he extolled love and wanted to make the world better than advertised. Now I am big fan of Queen if only for their lyrics.

Love dares you to care for the people on the edge of life
Love dares you to change the way we care about ourselves

I am not trying to do my impression of Will Ferrel doing his impression of James Lipton but go out and get any Queen album. Not just their greatest hits compilations but any of them and you will see what I mean.
And here is the rub. Apparently his surviving band mates (I am assuming here that they own and control the rights to all Queen music. I could be wrong) have hired out recordings of Mercury's singing to be used in commercials. That is why I can feel sad to hear Freddy coming out of my TV trying to sell me diet Coke.

HOLY SMOKE, THE CHURCH IS ON FIRE!
Man I have not posted anything on this for the longest stretch of time. Nothing like no new content to bore people. Deadlines can prevent me from doing a bunch of things. Including blogging. But work deadlines should be easing off a little bit in the near future as I wrap up a few pressing projects.
piedad. piedad.

YAY! FREE COMICS!!
I had a great time out at Shooting Star Comics for Free Comic Book Day. Along with myself writer Kirk Kushin as well as artist EJ Su was there. And later on model Rachel M. showed up. She is the model for Titania on some of the She-Hulk covers. I had fun knocking out sketches for as many people as I possibly could before having to vacate. If you are reading this and you don't read comics then find your nearest store and go in. You are bound to find something that will appeal to you. If you think that comics are only superheroes or only for kids then you will be pleasantly surprised. There are more comics out nowadays that are not just for adolescent males than I can remember in a long time. Westerns, mystery, weird X files type stuff, manga for girls and for boys, etc. etc.
Anyway here are the pics;

Kirk and I

EJ Su, myself and rachel M.

and here are a few of the sketches I did.

I like the "come be a tourist in our state, town, country etc." commercials on tv because they talk up wherever it is as if it were he end-all of tourism. I saw one today enticing people to visit Ireland because "after all there is a little Irish in all of us."
Do you like continuous cold weather and moisture? Then let me tell you a little story about a country that couldn't govern itself and has bad cuisine. MMMM that has dream vacation written all over it. Somehow a brochure about graveyards and pubs just doesn't excite me.

OOPS.
Turns out I will perhaps not be at Comic Madness tomorrow. I have been invited to appear at a store in Fontana called Shooting Star Comics. Don't get me wrong. I really like Jim at Madness. I like his store. He does a good job of running a comic shop. But I am piggy backing with comic writer Kirk Kushin. And if there is any time left over I am heading to Madness. If you don't know what Free Comic Book Day is, then read the entry below.

Free Comic Day, Again?
It's that time once again. I still have to give thanks to Joe Fields for actually getting off his duff and doing something to make the comic book industry healthier. How many times have you been in a comic shop and either overheard or participated in a bitch fest about the industry? But Joe is more than an armchair philosopher. He actually saw a weak spot and did something about it. Help out comics and help yourself by taking somebody who doesn't read comics to a comic book store this Saturday.
I will be at Comic Madness in Chino sketching and talking about my book coming out soon.
By the way ,find the closest shop to you with 1-888-COMIC BOOK (1-888-266-4226)

NOT MUCH SHAKIN'
Well here I am again with nothing really to write about. At least in my opinion. I should be making appearances next week at two comic stores. Supposedly. I will post a confirmation tomorrow. As if people are biting their collective nails to find out what the hell I am doing on any given weekend. But I still think Free Comic Day is a great idea and a step in the direction that the comic industry needs to go.
Sally and I saw a matinee of the Hitchiker's guide to the Galaxy. Having never read the books nor seen or heard the BBC tv show or radio plays I was ready to be entertained. Don't get me wrong. I have a lifetime of hanging out with enough geeks to already know a bit about the story. I think that it lagged in a few parts and Sam Rockwell rocks well in it (sorry). I am not sure that this is one of those cosmic science fiction movies that are so grand that they have to be seen on the big screen. The effects were nice but not epic or sweeping. And it didn't move me to go out and read the books.
